Kalibo, Aklan -- Aklanon farmers, who had been affected by El Niño will be availing of rice subsidies from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
The rice subsidies will be distributed to Aklan recipients coming from 4 Aklan towns – Balete, Buruanga, Libacao and Madalag through the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC).
PNRC Provincial Administrator Arcely Pelayo said a total of 4,187 Aklanons will be benefiting from the rice subsidies of the government.
Pelayo said the DSWD national office had already identified recipients, who are also beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps).
The rice subsidies for Buruanga recipients will be distributed on June 9 while that of Baleten-ons will be on June 11.
The distribution will be held to coincide with the distribution of the 4Ps cash grants of beneficiaries.
The PNRC is yet to hold a meeting for beneficiaries of Libacao and Madalag for the final date of rice distribution in the areas, favorably to coincide with the distribution of 4Ps cash grants too.
A farmer/household is set to receive a sack of rice one time. The rice is also iron-fortified.
According to the DSWD, Aklan has the biggest number of recipients with 4,187. Iloilo has 1,749; Capiz has 1,039 and Negros Occidental - 919 farmers-households. (PIA/Venus G. Villanueva)
